Program Snapshot: Mozambique

The core Farmer-to-Farmer Program (F2F) program in Mozambique focuses on horticulture and legume crops, complementing Feed the Future (FTF) investments in the country. USAID/Mozambique has chosen to implement its second wave of FTF programming through two complementary F2F associate awards, drawing on the successful model of volunteer technical assistance CNFA has demonstrated in implementing its core F2F activity over two five-year program cycles (FY09-13, FY14-18).

Elgeyo Marakwet County Youth Bunge Forum (EMYBF) is a Community Based Organization in Kenya established in 2011 following the post-election violence of 2007/2008. With funding from USAID, Mercy Corps started implementing the Yes Youth Can! Program with EMYBF, as a way of engaging Kenyan youth in community outreach and small business creation, empowering them socially, politically and economically, thereby transforming their lives. As a youth owned, led and managed project, the focus is an all-rounded youth; politically, socially and economically. The membership is open to all youth aged 18-35 years and is free from discrimination by gender, ethnic affiliation, race or religion.

Accurate data reporting and systems monitoring is a critical component in assuring machinery operates efficiently. EWB-USA’s volunteers provided Eurolona, a dairy processor, with a design for a control and monitoring system for its pasteurizer system. This control system will allow Eurolona to keep the logs and monitor the process of turning milk from local farmers into cheese, pasteurized milk and yogurt.
